BRINGING LOCAL MILK TO LOCAL FAMILIES

Meadow Gold Dairies Hawaiʻi is continuing to advance its mission of increasing access to locally produced milk and renewing Hawaiʻi’s dairy industry. At one time, Hawaiʻi was home to more than 80 dairies statewide and was self-sufficient with local milk. Today, only Cloverleaf Dairy remains in Kohala, Hawaiʻi.

In 2020, local dairyman Bahman Sadeghi purchased Meadow Gold to preserve Hawaiʻi’s last remaining dairy company and keep local milk processing alive. Sadeghi continues to invest in both Meadow Gold and Cloverleaf Dairy to strengthen Hawaiʻi’s dairy industry. From 2022 to 2025, local milk production increased from an average of 25,000 gallons per month to 80,000 gallons per month, marking a significant advancement towards reducing the state’s dependence on imported milk.

For over three decades, KTA Super Stores, a long-time supporter of locally produced foods, has proudly offered Cloverleaf Dairy’s local milk through its Mountain Apple brand. In 2025, Meadow Gold reached a major milestone, now producing enough local milk to ensure that all milk on Hawai’i Island carries the Island Fresh logo.

In September, Farm Link Hawaiʻi and Meadow Gold jointly announced a partnership to make Island Fresh milk available to Oahu consumers. Farm Link’s CEO, Claire Sullivan, shared in a Big Island Now interview that “offering 100% local milk has been a goal since the early days of Farm Link. We’re thrilled to get this product into our customers’ hands and make it possible for households to purchase local milk that supports the renewal of our islands’ dairy farmers.” Farm Link’s online marketplace and its newly announced brick-andmortar shop, Hōʻiliʻili Market, will also connect Oahu shoppers exclusively with locally produced groceries.

Meadow Gold is optimistic about the changing tide of Hawaiʻi’s dairy industry. “We are extremely grateful for the retailers and consumers who have supported our mission of bringing local milk back for local families to enjoy,” said Bahman Sadeghi.
